The School of Architecture and Urban Planning (SAUP) of HUST , a merger of the former School of Architecture of Huazhong University of Technology and the Architectural Planning Department of the former Wuhan Urban Construction Institute ,was established in May 2000.
The Architecture department of Huazhong University of Technology(now the HUST) was set up in 1982, and took in the first year of undergraduate and graduate students in September of the same year. Professor Zhou Puyi from Tsinghua University was the 1st dean of the department. And some famous architects like Mr. Huang Kangyu, Mr. Cai Dezhuang, Mr. Zhang Langbu and Professor Huang Heling, Huang Langu were also engaged as leaders of the department and the teaching and research section. At the very beginning, we received much help from home and abroad. Many renowned experts and professors came to give lectures to our students and provided many advices. We also had some overseas study program for our faculty in order to enhance their teaching level. Thanks to all those mentioned above we gained a solid foundation and tremendous experience. In 1985, Professor Huang Langu became the dean of Architecture Department and set up CAAD graduate school. Professor Tao Dejian started publication of the ¡°New Architecture¡± in 1983 while he was teaching in the department.
In recent years, Architecture Department has finished its reconstruction on subjects and the reallocation of faculty. Now we offer graduate program of Architecture and master¡¯s program of Architecture Design and Theoretic. Up to now, we have witnessed 18 years of undergraduate and graduate students.
The school now has 60 faculty members, of whom 7 are full professors, 18 are adjunct professors, and 25 are lecturers. Our faculty has made great contribution both to the teaching and the research of architecture design.
There are 669 undergraduate students and 150 graduate students in our school, plus 120 students who are attending the advanced postgraduate course. Many students became the mainstay in their working field after graduation and won high opinion of the society.
